There is no measurement lines on either contianer and it is impossible to measure out 4 gallons by mere estimation. You just know that one holds three gallons and the other five (evident by size). You have to use both containers at least twice via transfering water from one to the other. And you are allowed to empty out the containers. If you have any questions/ comments please post them here and they will be answered ASAP... Mission #1 is closed - 5+3=4 ----- You are right next to a river and have a 5 gallon container and a 3 gallon container. You need to measure out 4 gallons of water. How do you do it? Answer: You fill up the 3 gallon container and pour the 3 gallons into the 5 gallon container. You fill the 3 gallon container back up, and pour it into the 5 gallon container. You empty the 5 gallon container and pour the 1 gallon left in the 3 gallon container into the five gallon container.
